M18 Frankfurt – Let’s crash their party!

M18 Against the Opening-Party of the ECB: „March 18th 2015 will see the inauguration of a monument to European crisis policy when the new headquarters of the European Central Bank (ECB) opens in Frankfurt. At the ceremony, the representatives of the European member-states will pat themselves on the back for their crisis-solutions whilst using the celebrations to prepare for the next round. We will come from all over Europe and beyond to crash this party. […] We invite all antiauthoritarian and social movements to participate – in the discussion about austerity and crisis and in the actions on the 18th of March 2015 in Frankfurt/Germany.“

Greece: „What Does the State Need the Cops For, When it Has the Stalinist Youth?!“

My dislike for the KKE (Communist Party of Greece) and its youth wing KNE/“KNAT“, I already made clear when the SDAJ Göttingen invited them last year to talk about „Crisis and Struggle in Greece,“ which is akin to having a snail give a speech about life in the fast lane.

Facing away from the Cops, towards other demonstrators

Despite all the previous negative experiences with them (quite a few of them first hand, living in Greece and during the uprising of December 2008), I have to admit to still holding a bit of naive hope that, in this time of generalized discontent and resistance, they would finally throw their considerable weight on the side of revolution (or at the very least on the side of „the people“), and maybe not act as the States Fifth Column inside the resistance movement.

The KNAT protects the parliament, the Cops watch their backs…

How wrong this hope was could not have been demonstrated any more clearly than on the second day of last weeks General Strike. Faced with demonstrations of an unprecedented size, a huge wave of anger that threatened to roll out of control, and masses of people ready to attack the police protecting Parliament and the politicians inside… the KKE, and more particularly the KNAT, mounted a human barrier around parliament and armed with helmets and batons attacked anybody who tried to attack the Parliament. They did this in co-ordination with the cops, even mounting joint attacks against anarchists and anti-authoritarians together with the cops.
(It should also be noted that, for somewhat over 10 years, the KKE/KNAT/PAME have almost always organized their own demonstrations, away from all other sectors of the left-wing or anarchist movement. We can only imagine why they chose to break with that line at this particular moment in history).

Bad enough, and the sight of people waving red flags behaving in such a manner is already disgraceful and painful enough, but they even went a step further. One of their own died that day, and his death has been undeniably shown through the official medical report to be the result of the polices massive use of chemical weapons against demonstrators. But since the truth needs to be subservient to their interests…they released a press release claiming this death resulted at the hands of anarchists, who they referred to as „anarcho-fascists.“

For further reading, here is a text from the Peoples Assembly of Syntagma on the subject.

Again, this is not about anti-communism or „red baiting,“ or sectarianism, or what have you. But the facts, pictures, videos, and acts speak for themselves. Whatever side these people are on, is definitely not ours.

The KNAT and the Cops, old friends…

Greece: Statement from Villa Amalias Squat Regarding the Recent Fascist Pogroms

„For the past three days the wider area around Villa Amalias has seen events that any intelligent being living in the year 2011 would have thought to come out of a science fiction scenario. But this is not the case. This has been the reality for the past three years more or less: some have not experienced it, some do not want to see it, some are stupor and refuse to see it, some become complacent — and yet some seem to seek it.

Under the pretext of the condemnable —by all of us— murder of the 44 year old Manolis Kantaris on the junction of Tritis Septemvriou and Ipirou street, some people decided the time had come for them to cleanse the area from those strange and grubby creatures (according to them), the migrants, launching an indiscriminate pogrom.

Anarchists and antifascists in defense of Villa Amalias

From the very first moment TV stations stepped into a dance around the dead body, ballooning all the wrongdoings of this case, and our well-known “neighbours” made an appearance once again to help the scared residents step out of their doorsteps. Could it be that “golden dawn” is the new name of an entire area of Athens, not yet set because of some bureaucratic issues with its naming? All of a sudden, the death of a man by persons unknown with robbery as its motivation turned into the murder of an entire “nation” by “illegal migrants who act uncontrollably”. The ideal story for the fascist TV scenario writers who long a greek purity they have lost for at least half a millennium (if it ever existed at the first place that is) in order to organise feasts, with their trophy being any migrant that would happen to cross their way.

In a blink, the rules of the game are overturned and from the point where all enraged greeks would condemn criminality and uncontrollable violence in their neighbourhoods, we now reached the point where anything is allowed as long as it is committed by greeks. Mobbing is allowed and so are mass beatings, stabbings, exemplary and throughout likeliness murders — like the one of the 21 year old Bangladeshi migrant [in the neighbourhood of Kato Patisia, trans.] Everything is allowed in the name of fear, survival, imposition and revenge. Cannibalism is allowed, too.

Social cannibalism. The result of dissolved society which refuses, whether willingly or not, to acknowledge the source of all this. To understand that the poverty and squalor never came, nor will it ever come from those from below in this world. Those from bellow are the recipients of a situation that is eternally fed by those above, those holding capital and power, because this is how they safeguard their continuity. The manipulation and subjugation of the world, with social, economic and class criteria, holds for them the balance of the base of the capitalist pyramid.

By beating, stabbing or imposing yourself on whoever you consider to be inferior to you, without any specific logic, based on the colour of their skin or the country of their origin, no financial troubles of yours will be resolved. This, unless we all dream of working day and night at traffic lights, brothels, as street traders, builders, or cleaners for a crust of bread. Neither your social troubles will be resolved, since you will always have an inferiority complex —since you have it now too— inferiority and depreciation of your life by someone you consider to be your anterior.

The solution will always come through the social awareness and collective nuclei of resistance against those who truly suck away our lives. Those who convict in absentia those from below in terms of class, condemning them to a total, reciprocal extermination under the veil of order, security and prosperity. The same order and security that sent the young demonstrator Y.K. to the intensive care unit (and another 70 demonstrators to the hospital), following the consecutive murderous blows he received by the uniformed pigs, the executing force of their junto-democracy.

For the record:

09884764 #493 | “From the social trench of Villa Amalias” (a statement by the Villa Amalias squat in Athens regarding the events of the past days)

For the past 3 days and continuing on from the turmoil that followed the murder of M.K., the squats of the Plateia Victorias area saw some attempts of organised attacks by golden dawn members, so-called “indignant residents” [the term often used in mass media as a euphemism for fascists/racists — trans.] —and don’t you ever dare call them racists!— and cops. Chronologically, the first such attempt happened on May 10th at the squat of Patision and Skaramanga, with the fascists trying to attack the squat aided by cops who threw tear gas to the squatters to force them retreat inside the building.

Immediately afterwards was the turn of Villa Amalias. In all these three days the aforementioned (fascists and cops) tried to attack the squat but they were unsuccessful, as the crouching together and solidarity of those who see part of their self in Villa prevented this aim. In their attempt they found a helping hand, as in all their actions up to date, in the police. Sometimes hand by hand and lined up together, sometimes with the cops in the front and their fascist poodles following behind, sometimes the other time round. In any case this illegal relationship of affection and passion between the greek police and fascists has started to become legalised a long while ago, and it has been blatantly covered up not only by the state (that is, the employer of both) but by the media as well (a faithful contractor and associate of the state in dealing with tasks of social stupor and distortion of events). Or, with the narration of history either cut in half, or distorted. The truth in just three lines is that they came, they got their response —and not only that— and they bolted, because their procurers threw us tear gas. End of the story.

All these “gentlemen” should make clear in their minds that for us, people and ideas are not disposable products or part of some trend that we would change or bin at the first instance. Our responses, from whatever post they are given, will always be collective, dynamic and unabridged — they will not be supported or manipulated by anyone who wants to gain from bodies, whether metaphorically or literally. For us life has no “price tag” to negotiate in the markets of nationalities and their falsified national pride.

We have written this in the past but we do not tire ourselves in repeating it: we consciously find ourselves facing and against any exploiter, procurer and heroin dealer, regardless of nationality. Yet we also know that what is lacking is neither more police (there is an excess of that), the demand for order and security, nor of course the racist propaganda and fascist violence. What is lacking is the courage of the contact and association with what is different, the mutual self respect and dignity, the attempts for cross-cultural coexistence and the (substantial, not para-statal) self-organising, which can heal many of the wounds of our multicultural/proletarian neighbourhoods.

Greece – Fortress Europe – Anarchist Solidarity

The documentary below, titled „The Battle for Attica Square“ is not only saddening and enfuriating in its clear depiction of the murderous reality of „Fortress Europe,“ but it also shows to what extent nationalists and xenophobes will go to „protect“ their „area“ from „unwanted elements.“ Harassing defenseless families, victimizing the already desperate and marginalized, and even causing what is probably a life long trauma to a small child. Revolting stuff in every sense of the word, you should *definitely* watch it by clicking here.

Fortunately, the fascist harassment and attacks on migrants in this area of Athens have led to an increase in anarchist solidarity activity with the persecuted migrants. This solidarity reached its, at least current, climax on Friday October 8th, when well over 1,000 anarchists and migrants demonstrated together through the streets of Athens, against the immigration policies of the government and in a clear sign of resistance to the fascist gangs.

The poster above is the call to the demonstration, and the text reads as follows:

* The fascists’ knives

Recently, fascist and nationalist violence has been on the rise once again in the wider area of Ayios Panteleimonas. From September 11th to September 14th, fascist gangs used the cover of some locals and the police to attack, beat and stab migrants and to smash up their shops. Yet the migrants don’t retreat. They defend their lives, they crouch together and defend against far-right attacks and pogroms. Ahead of the [local municipality] elections the far-right is intensifying its shouting against migrants who “steal our jobs” and “are responsible for the crisis”. At the same time [the far-right parliamentary party] LAOS is voting in favour of the IMF agreement while organised gangs support the “average greek tradesman” – that is, the same person who has for years now exploited their employees, whether local or not.

* are supplied by the state

The “citizen protectors” arrest, beat up, torture and arrest injured migrants. The local police station enforces the policy of the state and its bosses against the migrants. A policy which names endless policing as “citizen protection” and equates “organised crime” with “petty thieves”. A policy creating migrant detention centres, spills blood on the borders of the EU and names “illegal” all those forced away from their places.

* they’re sharpened by mass media and the national body

Mass media, regularly hiding away reality, present the groups of neo-nazis, macho greeks, racists and descendants of nazi collaborators as “groups of enraged locals”. They hide away racist pogroms, the stabbing of migrants and police violence and they instead project “a suffocating situation” and “increased crime rates”.

In the midst of the crisis they continue to target migrants as a “national threat to health, national order and security”. They are moulding a national body on behalf of those who sit on our necks, perpetuating national divides, racism and xenophobia.

Common Struggles by locals and migrants
Us locals and migrants must find common ground to breach national unity, to create embankments, to fight together against all sorts of fascists, the attack launched by the state and bosses, the contempt for our lives.

People in Solidarity

Once the main demonstration had ended, police attacked a group of migrants who had chosen to continue marching:

Assorted Nr. 27: Cops Lose Control to Anarchists, Meat Kills, Weekend Activities

*Cops lose control to anarchists
Be it only for a short time and in a very limited area, its interesting to see and hear it from their perspective. Furthermore, it occurs more commonly than many may think. Without further research the FTAA protests in Quebec City come to mind, where anarchists at one point attacked a police car, forced the officers inside to flee, and then obtained from the car not only folders with complete police contingency plans and intelligence information, but also communications equipment which kept many militants very well informed as to the who, what, and where of the police for the course of the weekend.
(The riots in Göttingen during the 2005 Nazi demonstration are also possibly another example judging by the comments of the police chief afterwards, although in that case it is unclear how much of it was reality and how much of it was political bickering between police, courts, and politicians).
*McDonalds – I was Lovin It
„Make it vegetarian“ kind of ruins it for us here, but otherwise true enough…
*Weekend Activities
Very much this weekend, one might also say too much. A lot of it is concentrated around Berlin, with an antifascist demonstration, antifascist actions against a planned NPD concert, protests against Christian fundamentalist freaks, the „No Justice, No Peace“ solidarity concert, and more. The good people from Antifabrik have written a good overview of the weekends activities in Berlin. We particularly suggest the „No Justice, No Peace“ kundgebung and open air concert organized by the group of the same name as well as friends and family of the murdered Dennis J.

The other demonstration at which we strongly encourage attendance is in Dresden, in response to the string of right wing arson attacks in the previous weeks and months (directed against the homes of left wing activists, the Jewish community, and other similar „targets“). Further infos, here…
