Göttingen: Police Raid on the Rote Strasse: Press Roundup + Demonstration Saturday 30.01, 17:00

A complete, well informed and objectively written recap of the nights events can be found, in German, on Monsters of Göttingen. Another, significantly worse article, can be found at Göttinger Tageblatt.

A brief summary for the, numerous, non-German visitors here (very freely translated and edited from MoG):

On the evening of the 27th of January police raided one of the „collective“ houses in the Rote Strasse, under the pretense of looking for evidence related to the „bomb“ which exploded several days ago in one of the government offices responsible for deportations. This incident occurred only two days after Göttingen authorities arrested and deported a man to Kosovo (see: „Protests Against Deportation“). The „lead“ which led to this massive police operation is apparently nothing more than a police dog which, five days later and despite rain and snow, apparently led police from the site of the „explosion“ to the entrance of the house on the Rote Strasse.

This was justification enough to cordon off the entire Red Street with well over one hundred police officers for over three hours and proceed to a thorough raid of the house. In the course of the raid police confiscated three computers as well as other information storage devices. Not precisely bomb making material. The police also took advantage of the opportunity to carry out a further search warrant against an inhabitant of the house, in this case because of alleged property damage in the form of graffitti. The persons computer as well as several stencils were also confiscated.

During the time of the police operation several hundred supporters gathered at the cordoned off corner of Rote Street and Jüden Street. Eventually this led to a „spontaneous“ demonstration through the city, during the course of which several store windows were smashed, at least one police car had its windows broken, and several small barricades were built. Five people were arrested during or immediately following the demonstration. Furthermore, approximately 50 people held a spontaneous demonstration in solidarity with the inhabitants of the Rote Str. in Hannover.

Demonstration in Hannover

Most importantly, the inhabitants of the Rote Strasse as well as several autonome and antifascist groups are calling for a demonstration against repression and against the attempts to criminalize anti-racist solidarity. This demonstration is on Saturday, January 30th at 17:00 at the „Marktplatz.“ Put in few words: Be there!

Finally, just in, the press release of the inhabitants of the Rote Strasse houses:

Police Raids Against Left Wing Structures in Berlin and Dresden

Multiply and spread…

Briefly summed up for the non-German speaking: Police raided the antifa shop „Red Stuff“ in Berlin today, as well as the autonomous center „Conni“ in Dresden and the Dresden offices of the party „Die Linke“ (The Left). The official reason for this was to confiscate posters calling for blockades against the planned Nazi demonstration in Dresden on the 13th of February. This demonstration is the largest Nazi event in Europe, last year drawing apparently 7.000 Nazis. This year, a very broad coalition of antifa groups, unions, and some parties are organizing blockades of the march which will in all likelyhood draw about as many people as the Nazi demonstration.

„Kill Baby Kill“ Bassist Does It Like the Führer and Commits Suicide!

Those of you from Göttingen or surrounding areas might remember the name from the planned, but stopped, concert at the „Moonlight“ strip club in the city a couple of years ago. All the whining and complaining about not being racists, not having anything to do with fascists, and being poor victims of the big bad antifa PC police, well…turns out „Kill Baby Kill“ were not only racists, but cowards as well.

Dieter Samoy, aged 28, was convicted on January 12th of a racist aggression against a man of Togolese origin and his friend in the proximity of the infamous „Kastelein“ bar in Bruges. The man spent over a month in a coma, and finally died almost a year later due to a pulmonary infection.

Not one hour after learning of his conviction to two years in prison (yes, only two!) good old Dieter committed suicide. He will be missed by nobody except a bunch of cowardly racist drunks in a shitty bar in Belgium (and some people in Göttingen). And speaking of the cowards from the shitty bar in Belgium…its really impolite to keep people waiting for you for so long after you open your mouth so wide about „killing the reds.“ But dont worry…we can come back whenever you want! :-)

Public Denunciation

When in Germany, do as the Germans….so its public denunciation time.

I would like to denounce that while the culturalunistudentbonzenelite scum enjoy their evenings in the theater, there are others in this city who are forced to struggle to survive without even so much as a bottle of milk. And so, when you choose to be so generous as to grace us regular folk with the gifts of milk and bread, please be so kind as to bring us…

-Milk
-Bread
-Toast
-Cream Cheese
-Actimel
-Fruits
-Vegetables
-Salami
-Fish
-Sushi
-Ice Cream
-Chips
-Juice
-Chicken
-Butter
-And much much more.

Furthermore…bad, handtücher, ökomüll, müsli, flur, *einkauf.*
Such a bad, bad, bad citizen. How can you live with your conscience?

Dresden 2010: The Great Rock N Roll Swindle…

Rock N Roll, the great and glorious original:

The Racing Stones, part of the greatest terrace in the world:

All great and wonderful. Which is why the use of such imagery by people who are everything except rock and roll is absolutely scandalous (its already bad enough that they appropriated such a good name!):

Still, Id kill for the poster.

That aside, while we are on the subject, „Venceremos“ has sadly nothing positive to offer aside from a nice name, so wed like to extend our critical solidarity to „No Pasaran“ and hereby suggest the links below. Why critical? Because sometimes the tendency to sacrifice left-wing content in order to appease a bunch of „citizens“ can go a bit too far for our tastes, and who wants to see the headlines about the brave citizens of peaceful and modern Germany standing up against the big bad extremists? Thousands of autonomes playing nice in order to stop a demonstration, instead of turning the day into a disaster not only for the Nazis, but also for the police and the German state, is a rather sad prospect.
Nevertheless, No Pasaran is still „the best game in town,“ and the possibility of a more interesting dynamic developing around their activities is definitely there.

How to NOT get arrested, and lose a fortune in the process: The Washington DC Settlements…

Im very very upset. *Very* upset. Why is this?

Im upset, because on September 27th of 2002 I was intelligent enough to NOT get arrested in Washington DC. Usually, I am proud of my ability to not get in trouble (trouble, me!?), but in this case….foresight and the ability to properly analyze how a situation will develop have cost me 18,000 dollars!!!!!

On the date in question, several anarchist and anti-authoritarian groups had called for a „day of action“ in Washington DC as part of anti-World Bank protests. In theory fine and good, but in the context of what anarchists had pulled off in Washington over the last few years, relatively clearly a bad idea, of which I intended to have no part in.

You see, in 2001, together with several hundred close friends and many thousands of relatively annoying liberals, I made two visits to Washington DC. And because a story is best told in nostalgic anecdotes, here we go…

The first, on the invitation of the great and glorious Barricada Collective, was to the „Revolutionary Anti-Authoritarian Bloc“ at the presidential inauguration. The bloc ended up numbering somewhere between 700 and 1000 people. It got off to a rather disappointing start which entailed being beaten and chased by cops, then having hundreds of people from the bloc surrounded (no, not me!) and then finally being freed by the coincidence that the „Not My President“ march of reformists happened to come down the same street, creating enough confusion to allow for escape. After that mishap though, the day included glorious moments such as the plundering of a construction zone, overrunning a secret-service security checkpoint, direct confrontation with members of the secret service (who are not as tough as you might expect), and coming to within 10 meters and one final police line of spilling onto the parade route. More anecdotal, but certainly more spectacular, the day also provided two great photo opportunities. The first being the „conquest“ of the Navy memorial, replacing the military flags with red and black ones (sadly, I cant find any good pictures of it). The second, „Super Anarchist“ flying off of the Navy memorial to escape imminent arrest.

Flying anarchist glides over the cops, lands in the loving arms of „the masses“ and escapes arrest

After having their security checkpoint overrun by the black bloc, a heroic secret service agent attempts an arrest. The picture tells the rest.
(next to the car is the „battering ram“ used against the security checkpoint)

About ten months later, we paid a second visit to the city, albeit in a very different context due to the events of September 11th. What was originally to be a „North American Genoa,“ with the participation of all sorts of reformist and liberal organizations, as well as trade unions, and of course a black bloc of several thousand people ended up being a kind of suicide march of the thousand or so anarchists who refused to join the „we are all patriots now“ and „the time is not right for dissent“ chorus. After years of success after success on the streets (Seattle, Washington A16, Quebec City, and lets be honest….not few North American anarchists paid timely visits to places like Gothenburg and Genoa), we just couldnt understand that „the tide was turning.“

I have scattered memories of that last visit to Washington DC. Things like seeing a black bloc numbering less than the cops, yet armed with helmets, hammers, and in some cases even police batons. I remember that, despite being outnumbered *and surrounded* (German demonstration style) people still attacked cops just because, you know…they were there.
Most of all I remember the assistance police chief of Washington DC attempting to assert his authority be entering the demonstration with a police car, promptly getting clobbered on the head, and cops then pepper spraying each other. A moment both glorious and comedic…

And while shockingly nobody got arrested that day, post visit discussion quickly led to the surprisingly reasonable conclusion that we were probably pushing our luck. Somebody quoted something or other from I believe „The Art of War“ about swimming as a fish in the sea to attack your enemy…instead of as a really out of place and indiscreet lunatics in the city with the most cameras and law enforcement agencies probably in the world, but really some basic common sense was enough, no need for theoretical reference.

With that in mind, when not much later other crazed anarchists called for something to the effect of an „illegal“ demonstration, possibly blockades, some actions, and so forth in Washington DC, with clearly no „cover“ from any other spectrums, we quickly came to the conclusion that this was a rather bad idea. I believe my exact, typically diplomatic, words were: „These kids are fucking crazy, they will all get arrested, where not going anywhere near this thing.“

For this, my friends and I are now poorer than 400 or so other people. Why? On the technicality that the police failed to warn people to disperse before proceeding to arrest them. Nice for them, frustrating for us.

There is a good and funny poster/text on the subject on the Crimethinc page.

PS: Here is a video of the Inauguration 2001 protests, which shows the wide diversity of people who were on the streets that day.

PPS Top prize for „thats really gotta suck“ goes to the comrades who indeed went to the demonstration, and then proceeded to escape arrest (and thus 18,000 dollars) by crawling *through the sewer system.* Theres just no justice…

Assorted Nr. 20, Wild Mix: Anti/Fascism, Nazi Shop Burned in Moscow, Clashes in Geneva, Copenhagen, Iran, 70s French Footage, ….

Again, with little to no order, logic, or reason, piled up stuff from the last few weeks.

*Jeff „Free“ Luers finally free! Its been a few weeks already, but its still good news worth reading about

Anti/Fascism Mix

*Aside from the terribly annoying drama voice, an interesting and entertaining documentary on the „Volksfront“ Nazis on the US west coast. And if you want to waste hours and hours looking at gangsta crazies, just follow the links. :-)

While on the subject of Nazis, this nice human being apparently killed his wife and 18 month old child. No comment, but notice the tattoos.

*On the more positive antifascist news front: Russian antifascists set fire to a Nazi shop in Moscow a couple of weeks ago. The communique:

„On the 6th of December 2009 an unidentifed group of people entered the Nazi shop „4 Shadows,“ belonging to fans of the football club „Spartak Moscow.“

At around 18:00 three individuals with ski masks entered the store. One of them began firing on the shop vendor with an air rifle while yelling „get on the floor fascist!“

The sales person recieved four impact wounds in his arm, chest, and shoulder. Soon after being injured he lost consciousness.

The unidentified attackers expropriated all the money in the cash register before setting fire to the store through the use of Molotov cocktails. The entire store was burnt down.

There were no arrests.“

*Alos nice and uplifting, but for most of you incomprehensible because in French (not only in French, its in Quebecois french…so good luck): This is one of the most objective and rational reports on anarchism Ive ever seen in the mainstream media. Twenty four minutes long and definitely suggestible. It even features an activist from the great and glorious NEFAC.

Les anarchistes from Le Chat Noir on Vimeo.

*Iran: People fighting back, and doing so succesfully is always nice to see…

*Speaking of nice to see, the demonstration and subsequent clashes in Geneva were certainly worth more than a passing mention, yet for some reason were almost completely drowned out by the Copenhagen circus.
And speaking of Copenhagen, a little bit of childish behavior:

Amateurs go to Copenhagen, professionals go to Athens. :-)

*And speaking of Athens, it has unfortunately not been possible to provide regular updates as to what has been happening there the last few months, but it has been quite a bit. You can read regular updates at http://www.occupiedlondon.org/blog/

*Finally, a little gem…Retro clashes in France. Some vintage 70s footage of anarchists and autonomes in Paris and anti-nuclear clashes.
