Military: Just *Dont* Do It

The US prides itself on its „professional and volunteer“ army. But all that this means is that the traditional draft has been replaced by what has been aptly described as the „poverty draft.“ Rarely, if ever, will you see army recruiters hunting for victims in the schools and neighborhoods of the upper class. Recruiters instead hunt for „bodies“ amongst the disenfranchised, those with no perspectives, and those generally more liable to be sold on the promises of the military. Money, a future, university funding, you name it. No promise is too good.
Some young (as well as older) veterans, ex-recruiters, and parents of those who died speak out. Of course, the main issue with US involvement in the middle east is a political one, but if these appeals to personal interest and morality help keep young people away from the army, then they are of course welcomed.
